2024 Rules
I. INTRODUCTION
The 10th edition of the Pierre de Manchicourt international organ competition will take place from September 2nd to 6th October 2024 in two cities of the Département du Pas-de-Calais: Béthune and Saint-Omer.
> The competition is open to organists of all nationalities with no age restriction.
> The deadline for receiving the pre-selection recordings is July, 1st 2024 midnight.
> Candidates may decide to compete on one or two different and unique instruments (classical, polyphonic, romantic esthetics).
> The competition includes two parts, for each organ. 1) a preselection based on records 2) a final.
> Programs are free
.> Timing is imposed.
.> Recording preselections on only one organ is tolerated.
> Pieces have to be chosen so that the Jury can appreciate the musical, artistical and technical skills of the candidate.
> Each program must correspond, as far as possible, to the features of the organ(s), with the intention of serving both music and instrument(s).
II. ONLINE REGISTRATION
A Registration is biding concerning the respect of the jury’s decisions. In case of litigation, only the French version of these rules will prevail.
A. Administrative section
Candidates need to register by July 1st 2024 midnight last call, on the website of the Orgues en Béthunois association www.orguebethune.fr / ‘competition’ section. The registration will only be taken into account if all the required documents are sent out, namely:The online registration form on www.orguebethune.fr
> A copy of your national ID or passport
> A sworn statement that the recording is not a copy, nor is retouched in any way
> A biography or resume, in English or in French
> A photography in HD (300 DPI) if possible and copyright free
> The list of chosen instruments with each programme according to criteria B indicated below.
> Candidates will receive an email confirming that their material is received and complete.

B. Recorded Pre-selection program(s)
Béthune
> A free program of 20 minutes
Saint-Omer
> A free program of 20 minutes.
C. Digital audio recording
> Candidates must record their pre-selection programmes in a digital mp3, m4a or wave format
> No name in the recorded pieces under penalty of exclusion.> The recording(s) must be sent by we-transfer to the following email address: concoursmanchicourt@gmail.com
> Videos are prohibited, in order to remain anonymous.
> Recorded digital files must be named according to instrument choices: starting with 1 for Saint-Omer, 2 for Béthune according to your choice. Including the name of the composer of each piece, for each file.
D. Programmes for finals in Saint-Omer and Béthune
Saint-Omer - Friday, October 4th at 4.00pm
> A free program of approximately 25 minutes.
> Candidates may not play again any of the pre-selection pieces.
Béthune – Sunday, October 6th at 1.30pm
> A free program of approximately 25 minutes (except the optional prize) .
> Candidates may not play again any of the pre-selection pieces.
III. REGISTRATION FEE
The payment of the registration fee for 1 or 2 organs is 50€ non-refundable and must be made by bank transfer to the following account before July 1, 2024 Midnight (the closing date for the preselection records sending).

When the transfer is not in your name, please indicate the name of the person to whom your registration is linked.
IV. JURY
> the jury was constituted without taking into account the potential failure of one of its member
V. FINANCIAL COMPENSATION AND PRACTICAL INFORMATION
> Candidates selected to continue on the finals will receive a financial compensation up to 300 euros for each final to cover for their transport and housing in part or in whole. This compensation will be conditioned to the presentation of the corresponding bills.
> A list of housing possibilities and practical information will be sent out to the candidates selected for semi-finals.
VI. DATES AND SELECTION PROCESS
A. Recordings for pre-selections (deadline for receiving your material by email: July 1st 2024 midnight)
> Pre-selections are anonymous
> Candidates will be pre-selected by some of the jury members, depending on their instrument choices for semi finals and finals. They may therefore be judged by different jury members accordingly
> The candidates selected to continue on will be informed by August 1st 2024 latest.
> They will then have to send their detailed programmes for the on each organ, by email to concoursmanchicourt@gmail.com - see chapter III criteria D of the competition's rules for more details
B. Finals
Saint-Omer - Friday, October 4th at 4.00pm
Béthune – Sunday, October 6th at 1.30pm
> The competition team can organize for an assistant to turn pages and pull stops for each candidate.
> Candidates are allowed to be joined by their own assistants, except for their professor(s) who are not permitted to assist.
> The organs do not have a combiner, which limits the number and complexity of registrations for the assistants.
VII. ORGANS
> Saint-Omer, cathedral : romantic inspired Great Organ (Cavaillé-Coll, 1855, case from 1717), 4 kboards / ped / 49 stops. Egal tempérament.
> Béthune, saint-Vaast Church: North-German-polyphony inspired Great Organ (Freytag/Tricoteaux, 2001), 3 kboards / ped / 42 stops. Valotti temperament.
> Organs’ characteristics, their composition, console and disposition of stops are available online http://orguebethune.fr
> Small instruments will be available to candidates during the competition
VIII. BROADCASTING AND USE OF RECORDINGS
> Finals will be filmed, projected on a large screen on site, and broadcasted online on Youtube
> All test sessions may be recorded, broadcasted online, on the radio or on television. By registering to the competition, candidates agree to any non-commercial use of any of the recordings of their performances during the competition (including pre-selection material) by the competition’s organisation for 10 years with automatic renewal. Participants may not claim any fee or copyright related to the pre-listed use by the competition’s organisation. However, any commercial use would be subject to a specific agreement and contract. This authorization is not an exclusive licence and candidates may therefore use freely the content recorded by the competition’s staff.
